An Episcopal service might not be familiar to you, but take some time and get to know us and we are sure you will like our traditions. Give us ....
A Month of Sundays
Visit One Sunday ... you will find a traditional and reverent service. Some people kneel, some stand, others stay seated. Not sure what to do? Follow the others or do what seems more comfortable to you! The service follows the Book of Common Prayer located next to the hymnal. Last is the communion, or eucharist. Not comfortable coming forward yet? That's okay. We will wait for you.
Visit a Second Sunday ... Join in the readings and give voice to your faith. Or, listen closely and let the ancient and traditional wording seep into your spirit. The Nicene Creed is recited by the congregation and boils Christianity down to its essence. The definition of the word "catholic" in the Nicene Creed means "including or concerning all humankind; universal," not the Roman Catholic church. The "prayers of the people" give you a chance to add the names of your loved ones where you feel the need - whether by silent prayer or by saying their names aloud. Your choice, based on your comfort level.
Visit a Third Sunday ... Consider the communion as your altar call. Here you are one among many, never singled out, but given a private opportunity to have a moment of worship with God. Accept the wafer in open prayerful hands. Then either dip the wafer in the cup or eat it and drink from the cup separately.
Visit a Fourth Sunday... You will feel yourself hungry for communion because you feel it feeding your soul. Hopefully you will find yourself returning to Saint James Episcopal Church because our members are friendly but not demanding, the ceremony of the service is traditional and beautiful, and the sermon is uplifting and brings you peace.
